Outdoor Capital of Transylvania
GYERGYÓ

Good to know

The natural features of the Gheorgheni-Lacu Roşu tourist destination offer excellent opportunities to enroot active  and eco tourism- and develop it on the long run. Hiking trails and climbing routes arranged through the decades are assets that provide a solid basis for the area of Gheorgheni to become a center for eco and active tourism.

In order to achieve this vision the idea to adopt the brand "Outdoor Capital of Transylvania" after the model of the destination Fort William-Lochaber in Scotland was agreed upon.

The idea was embraced by the Council of the town (Gheorgheni) and the Gheorgheni-Lacu Roşu area participates since the 2012 at tourism fairs in Bucharest and Budapest using the brand "Gheorgheni-Lacu Roşu - Outdoor Capital" and maintains this line of action. Actors in local tourism also support this idea. We believe that the brand outlines the path to be followed towards defining our microregion as a tourist destination.

Based on those said above, effort is made that tourist destination Gheorgheni-Lacu Roşu to appear on the domestic and international market as an important eco and active tourist destination.
