About - Voslobeni

Voşlăbeni is the only settlement of the Giurgeu-Basin with a Romanian majority population. Initially,  Moldovan Romanian Greek-Catholic settlers were the first to be the inhabitants of the village,  who were bondsmen of the noble Lázár family. They worked on the manorial estates starting from 17th century. The village's name is associated with the iron ore (vas in Hungarian) and the foothills of a mountain (-láb). The Romanian community built a church out of wood in 1714, wich in 1864 was replaced with a church built out of stone a stone.

Near the village limestone was mined and burnt to gain limepaste . In the past lime was processed in 10 kilns . Today, this industry is only kept alive to satisfy local needs. Recently, tremolite and dolomite is mined on an industrial scale.
